artist Statement Anna Fairchild 2015
This work explores the contrast between the contemporary outer technologically connected space and the gap between this illusion of permanent geographical and communication connectedness and the internal, personal psychological space of memory, which is often experienced as isolation and separation.
The approach is experiential, allowing work to emerge during making where drawing, printmaking, sculpture and photographic processes overlap. Somatic, intuitive interactions with materials and processes; direct casting; cutting; folding and tearing, create forms and images, which are used to pin down visual and physical moments of consciousness.
This approach synthesizes ideas, which explore how technology is changing the way we think, feel and remember.
